Acapulco is located on the most southwestern tip of the Mexican Pacific Coast. With average daily temperatures of 85 degrees Fahrenheit (29 degrees Celsius), this paradise is known for its nearly perfect weather with cloudless blue skies from mid-October to June and lush vegetation fed by late evening rains throughout the summer months. Unlike the Caribbean or Hawaii, and even other ports in Mexico, Acapulco's mountainous region is located far enough inland for the rains to come down in the late evening, often after midnight, allowing traveler's plenty of opportunity to sunbathe.

Acapulco has been, and always will be, the most important tourist destination in Mexico. World travelers often claim it is the "most beautiful bay in the world" known for its illustrious "carpet of jewels" after sunset. One cannot help but hold their breath at the sight of shimmering lights that dance gaily across the water of this tightly shaped bay. Acapulco is flanked north and south by two large lagoons, bird reserves and prime winter training spots for world-class waterski champions, Tres Palos and Coyuca. Pichilingue Bay and Roqueta Island offer playing grounds for scuba divers and yacht cruisers.

The wide variety of beaches available in Acapulco give the traveler the choice of long stretches of white shell beach sand and shallow waters, to yellow grainy sand inside the bay with either calm bathlike turqoise water or rolling short lived waves. Some areas of the bay offer no wave activity at all.

Plush coconut plantations in the flatlands south of Acapulco are a sight to see as one descends by plane near the Tres Palos Lagoon.
